+81 is pleased to announce Hideki Nakajima Graphic Exhibition, artworks by acclaimed graphic designer Hideki Nakajima. We temporary close the gallery after Nakajima’s show and reopen the space next year 2016. (TBA)
At the gallery we showcase crafted series of limited edition prints by Nakajima, employing a combination of offset and intaglio printings with unique treatment of color and foil stamping. The Infinite Libraries series takes inspiration from poems by Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca, and visualizes imaginary libraries of sacred texts, fragrances, dreams, labyrinths, and time, etc., through barely legible words and abstraction. The Unfinished series illustrates the critical plateau in the becoming of minimalist composition through rigorous methods of subtraction such as scratching. Nakajima has held exhibitions at +81 Gallery (New York), G/P Gallery (Tokyo), OCT Art & Design Gallery (Shenzhen), and his works are in the collections of Museum of Modern Art (New York), Centre George Pompidou (Paris), Kunsthaus Zürich, Bibliothèque Nationale de France (Paris), Musée de l'Imprimerie (Lyon), Guangdong Museum of Art (Guangzhou), among others.
